Argyle Legends vs Yealmpton Rovers 2010
Argyle Legends completed their fixtures for 2010 with a comprehensive 6-2 victory over a spirited Yealmpton Vets side.
The game played on a remarkably good surface given the recent weather saw the Legends dominate the opening exchanges with Mark Damerell going close on three occasions. With Kevin Nancekivell and Darren Garner very influential in midfield the game was played mainly in the opposition half with goalkeeper John Uzzell rarely called into action.
It therefore came as no surprise when Mark Damerell opened the scoring in the 24th minute, quickly adding another, one minute later.
The Legends were forced into a change when guest player Mark Cunningham hobbled off to be replaced by another guest player Chris Wakeham. This change did not effect the Legends dominance with Darren Garner making it 3-0 in the 32nd minute. There was no further scoring before the half time whistle was blown.
The hosts started the second half in determined fashion and reduced the arrears in the 50th minute following hesitation in the Legends defence. Their joy was shortlived with Kevin Nancekivell restoring the three goal advantage in the 55th minute with a close range finish. The game was being played almost entirely in the Yealmpton half with the home goalkeeper making several last ditch saves. After some poor Legends finishing and resolute defending from the hosts Kevin Nancekivell scored his second and the Legends fifth in the 68th minute. One minute later Ryan Cross added a sixth with a shot from just inside the area. Six minutes from time the home side scored their second and the games final goal after some comical Legends defending.
