Argyle Legends vs Ernesettle Legends 2014
Sunday 28th September
Argyle Legends, missing 7 regular players, put up a heroic performance against Ernesettle Legends before finally falling to a 3-2 defeat at Optimus Park.
A much changed Legends side with only 11 available players simply could not cope with the hosts whirlwind start and found themselves trailing by 3 goals after only 15 minutes. At this stage the Legends looked to be heading for a heavy defeat against a more than useful Ernesettle outfit, but somehow managed to stem the tide and gradually claw their way back into the game. They were rewarded one minute before the interval when Andy Bacon reduced the deficit to 3-1 with a cool finish past the advancing keeper.
The second period was a total contrast to the first with the Legends dominating possession and pushing the hosts back into their own half. With no available substitutes and Geoff Battams and Darren Garner struggling with injuries the hosts were reduced to isolated forays into the Legends half.
Chance after chance went begging as Garner, Bacon (twice), Paul Smith and Ryan Cross all had shots saved by home goalkeeper Wayne Adlam.
Garner set up a tense finale, when 4 minutes from time, his half hit shot somehow found its way into the net to make it 3-2.
Ernesettle were not to be denied and the Legends paid the price for failing to cope with the hosts torrid opening spell.
However the major winners were The Friends of Millford School who benefited by £803, raised on the day by the healthy crowd who witnessed an enthralling game.
